 I continue to find renewable energy and the problem with the lack thereof to be the most interesting sustainability and resource issue. I feel that Hawaii has taken the step in the right direction by installing the wind turbines about a decade ago, but there is so much we can do with the vast abundance of resources that are at our disposal (i.e. wind, solar, and hydro power). I feel that looking towards this paper, I am confident that I will be writing about the fact that climate change, and the quest to rely on renewable energy, is the biggest global issue that we face today.  Sitting in class and looking at interesting facts that had to do with renewable energy was fascinating.  I believe that climate change and the search for 100% renewable energy dependency is the biggest fight and challenge that we face in todays world, and the world facing our children’s world. However, there is a lack of urgency, and always has been a lack of urgency, when it comes to the need to search for these resources and how we can become more sustainable.  With this up and coming generation, it’s hard to imagine that they will seriously take climate change and the search for renewable energy into their own hands. At least for now. It seems that humans, sadly, rather than be proactive, we have become reactive. I just hope that we react a little quicker, and before things get out of hand. It’s sad to imagine a world where things like animals and places will slowly start to disappear due to our lack of urgency when it comes to these pressing issues.  I once did a report on the problems with renewable energy here in the islands, specifically the wind turbines in Kahuku. I remember it had something to do with the sounds and noise that residents and schools can her in the distance, as well as the possible health effects that come with being so close to such a powerful generator of power. Birds and the native animals that could be affected from the massive source of energy was also of concern to the residents and the animal conservationists. As of recent, my HWST class has been engrossed in the topic of renewable energy and the crisis that we have on our hands due to things like global warming. Wind turbines and solar were amongst the biggest contributors to being able to go fully abstinent from fossil fuel use.  I find that one of the best things that I did to help myself for this Paper 2 was writing out and structuring my paper. Usually when I write my papers, I kind of wing it, but with an idea of my quotes and my sources that I want to use. However, this paper was a little bit more challenging for me, so I took the time to write out my paper to help myself structure and see it all planned out. I find that the benefit of writing out and structuring my paper was being able to make sure that the points flowed better. It also helped me to solidify my points and to make sure that I wasn’t getting mixed up when writing. This is something that I highly recommend and something that I am definitely going to do when I start my next major paper. 

      Paper two was another great way to go back into the book and into our brains and be able to write. However, like all english papers, they come with their own set of challenges.      I really did like the premise of the paper. It really had us go back into the book and think about some of the most important points that the book talks about. It also allowed us to think creatively about some of the ways that Vaughan was trying to get us to think.      I think that the hardest thing about writing this paper was really finding quotes that fit perfectly into my writing. It was challenging to find quotes that matched my topic, without worrying about it also leaking into another value that is written about. Also, trying to think of ideas that had to do with self sufficiency.      Overall, I do think my paper came out alright.
