Influential Individuals
When thinking of a person that has influenced me in a positive way, my father instantly comes to mind. Whether it be through sports or academics, I can say with 100% certainty that he has been the most influential individual in my life. When starting sports, he instilled in me the mindset/value that we follow through with everything. He would never let me quit, and that is a mindset that has carried with me six years later. He also took time out of his life to make sure that I was adequately prepared to play, as he would spend time researching methods to help better my performance on the field. After all that hard work he put into me, it really pushed my decision to work as hard as possible to earn that starting varsity spot and to play at a high level.
My father is also a teacher, so naturally academics is a big part of my life. From a young age, he taught me the importance of a good education and has pushed me to excel in everything I do. Those values of hard work and dedication I have since carried with me.
It is only fair that if I highlight the hard work of my father, that I do the same for my mother, who has equally impacted my values and decisions throughout my life. My mother taught me the importance of what it means to be a good person. My mother was always tougher on me than my dad, and no matter how much it irked me, I knew that it was for good reason. She instilled values in me that I carry with me today. She taught me how to put myself first, and how to make sure that I am happy at all times. This past year was filled with relationship problems plastered with trial and error. I talked to my mom about most of it, and she continued to press the importance of self worth, and that is now a value that I hold close to me.
At my mom’s company, she is head of sales and is the highest selling executive. She works hard and often comes home stressed out, but she is definitely one of the hardest workers I know. Through observation of her success in her field of work, it instilled in me the value of hard work. That has pushed me to make decisions about my future, and how hard I choose to work on a daily basis.
